SMALL BUSINESS ECONOMIC RECOVERY GRANT
(SBERG) PROGRAM
Providing Grants to Help Spencer Area Small Businesses and Their Employees Through the COVID19 Economic Hardship
NOTE: The deadline to apply was November 1, 2020. This grant program has now ended.
The Town of Spencer, IN has designed this Small Business Economic Recovery Grant (SBERG) program. SBERG has been created to help local small for-profit businesses retain area jobs, including the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) objective of 51% Low to Moderate (LMI) jobs along with all area jobs. The project area for the grant program is Spencer and the 6-mile radius around it. (SEE MAP BELOW)
The Town of Spencer received $250,000 from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) and has added $50,000 to make $300,000 available for grants. Grants up to $10,000 are available to small businesses. That means we can provide grants to at least 30 area businesses. More if not everyone needs the full $10,000. The grant money can be used for:
Working Capital or Continue Operations or Support Remote Work

BUSINESS RESPONSIBILITY
Commit to best faith efforts to retain your staff, in particular LMI employees. Provide a Grant Report within 30 days after all your funds have been spent.

ELIGIBILITY
- Your business must be in Spencer or within six (6) miles of the town limits
- Your business must be a For-Profit business
- Your business must have at least one (1) and no more than 100 employees
- Your business must have been opened prior to June 8, 2020
- At least 51% of your employees must be at or below the Low to Moderate Income (LMI) level. (Annual income of $36,600)
